A man threatening to jump from an Interstate 805 overpass near Normal Heights caused traffic to back up Wednesday as authorities tried to talk him down.
10News.com reported via Twitter at 11 a.m. that the man had been taken into custody, but a Caltrans map showed considerable backup remained, even as the freeway lanes were reopened.
The man was spotted on the Adams Avenue bridge over the freeway shortly before 9 a.m., San Diego police Officer Frank Cali said.
Authorities closed Adams Avenue in both directions between Ohio Street and Mountain View Drive, Cali said. All but one northbound and one southbound lane of Interstate 805 were closed, and media reports indicated there is a huge backup.
The California Highway Patrol advised northbound drivers to use state Route 94 to access northbound Interstate 5 or 15, and southbound motorists to take state Route 52 to get to the southbound 5 or 15 freeways.
Southbound traffic south of state Route 52 was being detoured onto Interstate 8.
