A two-vehicle crash Friday at the intersection of a gated senior community in Oceanside sent both drivers to the hospital, police officials said.

It happened about 10:40 a.m. on Emerald Drive between Sunset Drive and Lake Boulevard, Oceanside Police Lt. Leonard Cosby said.

A Toyota Tundra truck traveling northbound on Emerald Drive at a high rate of speed began to turn left on Jade Lane into the gated senior community when the driver collided with a Chrysler headed south on Emerald Drive, Cosby said. Both vehicles were heavily damaged.

The driver of the Chrysler sustained lacerations on an arm and “possibly more serious injuries” and was flown to Scripps Memorial Hospital in La Jolla, Cosby said.

The driver of the Tundra was taken by ambulance to Scripps Memorial and was unable to give a statement to police at the scene.
