Border Patrol agents on Wednesday arrested a 24-year-old man after finding 30 pounds of meth stuffed inside the body of his car.

The man, a U.S. citizen, arrived at the San Clemente checkpoint at approximately 7:30 p.m. and was referred for a secondary inspection. As agents asked routine questions, a K-9 sniff of the 2007 Dodge Caliber resulted in an alert.

Agents searched the left rocker-panel area of the vehicle. When they removed the cover, they discovered a stack of freezer bags filled with methamphetamine. A total of 23 bags were eventually retrieved from both side panels.

The methamphetamine weighed approximately 33.09 pounds and has an estimated street value of $330,900.

Agents arrested the man on charges of drug trafficking and possession of a controlled substance. He and the narcotics were turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration, while the vehicle was seized by the Border Patrol.
