A man was killed early Monday in a single-vehicle rollover crash after slamming into trees off Interstate 5 in Chula Vista, authorities said.

The vehicle veered off the southbound freeway, rolled down an embankment and damaged a chain link fence before coming to a rest near the back side of an industrial complex at 1095 Bay Blvd., north of Palomar Street, around 1:45 a.m., according to the California Highway Patrol and Chula Vista Police.

The victim, David Antonio Sanchez, 29, died at the scene, a San Diego Fire-Rescue Department dispatcher said. He had suffered “obvious fatal trauma,” according to the Medical Examiner’s Office, aftger being found unresponsive and strapped in the driver’s seat.

A security officer came upon the wreckage at around 1:45 a.m., but it was unclear when Sanchez crashed, officials said.
