A woman in her 40s was fatally struck by a SUV in Grantville by Qualcomm Stadium Wednesday morning, police said.
The driver of a black Jeep Liberty crashed into the pedestrian in front of 10343 San Diego Mission Road, near Interstate 15, shortly before 7:30 a.m., San Diego police Officer Frank Cali said.
First responders attempted to resuscitate the pedestrian, but she died at the scene, according to police and a fire dispatcher. Her name was not immediately available.
The Jeep’s driver stopped following the crash, Cali said.
Officers conducted traffic controls in the eastbound lanes near the entrance to Qualcomm Stadium following the fatal accident, Cali said.
Authorities have been concerned about an increase in fatal pedestrian accidents in the city this year. They warn that typically the most dangerous hours are late, after 8 p.m.
