A suspected drunken driver damaged the main entrance to Naval Air Station North Island Tuesday, which prompted authorities to temporarily direct traffic through the installation’s two other gates, officials said.

Shortly after 5:30 a.m., officials said via the City of Coronado’s Facebook page that traffic was being diverted  from the Third Street entrance to the Ocean Boulevard and First Street gates. Significant delays were reported.

Navy officials reopened the main gate around 6:30 a.m. after authorities resolved structural issues related to the crash, but city officials said traffic was expected to remain tied up until the backup was cleared.
