A controversial Compton Unified School District trustee wanted in San Diego on suspicion of oral copulation of an unconscious victim was freed from the Vista Detention Facility on $100,000 bail Friday, the U.S. Marshals Service reported.
Skyy Fisher, 31, was arrested Wednesday at his place of employment in the Los Angeles World Trade Center at 350 S. Figueroa St., on a warrant issued by the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department, Deputy U.S. Marshal Dante Salazar said. He was then booked into the Vista Detention Facility.
Reports indicate he already is facing criminal charges in a Los Angeles case and he has courted controversy in the past, for using homophobic terms on a broadcast.
The charges stemmed from a case that began in early June, Los Angeles-area television station NBC4 reported.
Fisher was arraigned in San Diego Superior Court on Thursday, subsequently posted $100,000 bail and was released, Salazar said.
Fisher told the television station that he was shocked by his arrest.
“It was very hard when I found out that’s what the charge was,” he told NBC4 on Thursday. “It’s very stressful for me, but my main goal is to defend my name.”
U-T San Diego reported that the charges against Fisher were investigated by San Diego police and did not involve a minor.
Fisher was elected to the Compton Unified School Board of Trustees in 2011, and made headlines the following year after an obscenity laden podcast interview, in which he described Trayvon Martin using a homophobic term, was made public. He later issued an apology and survived calls for his resignation.
He was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving in November, and the case is pending, the Los Angeles Times reported. The report also said he was arrested at the Engineer and Architect Association. at the center.
On his Facebook page, Fisher closely followed developments at Compton schools, while also showing support for local candidates, both in and outside of Compton.
