A shooting at an apartment complex near Palomar College left a man wounded Thursday and prompted evacuations as authorities searched for the assailant.
The gunfire in the 200 block of Knoll Road in San Marcos erupted reported shortly before 9 a.m., according to sheriff’s officials.
Hours later deputies arrested Jose Velasquez, 25, on charges of violating the conditions of his parole for alleged possession of a loaded gun. He was taken into custody at Grossmont Center in La Mesa at 1 p.m.
Medics took the victim to a hospital for treatment of a wound to the abdomen. He was expected to recover.
Deputies evacuated the apartment complex as a SWAT team went through it in search of the shooter, Lt. James Bolwerk said.
Authorities closed Knoll Road between West Mission Road and Los Vallecitos Boulevard as a precaution.
The assailant remained at large as of late morning, sheriff’s officials said.
