An 18-year-old woman who was stricken with some type of heat-related ailment Wednesday while hiking at the Three Sisters Falls trailhead near Julian later died in a hospital, a San Diego Sheriff‘s sergeant said.

The woman’s hiking companion called for help from the trailhead on Boulder Creek Road in the Cleveland National Forest about 4:15 p.m. Tuesday, and told authorities the young woman was suffering from heat-related physical distress, sheriff’s Sgt. Carlos Medina said.

Arriving deputies and fire department personnel began first aid and she was subsequently flown to a San Diego hospital, Medina said.

She later died at the hospital, Medina said. Her name was not immediately available.

The Three Sisters Falls trail is considered one of the most ardous in San Diego County and recommended only for experienced hikers.
