A man already in custody on an unrelated charge is now suspected of fatally bludgeoning his half-brother in a Mountain View-area alley last week, authorities reported.
Jose Hernan Meza, 35, was expected to face a murder charge in connection with the death of Jorge Jimenez, 25, according to San Diego police.
Officers responding to reports that a person might be injured in a neighborhood near Mount Hope Cemetery found Jimenez lying on an access road off the 3700 block of Hemlock Street at about 11:15 p.m. July 7.
Medics took him to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead from blunt-force head trauma two days later, Lt. Mike Hastings said. After forensic examination, the county Medical Examiner’s Office ruled Jimenez’s death a homicide July 11.
Detectives have determined that on the day Jimenez was wounded, he and Meza got into fight, according to Hasting, though the cause of the altercation is still under investigation.
Just a day after Jimenez was found, Meza was taken into in custody for an alleged parole violation, according to jail records. His arraignment in the homicide case is set for Monday afternoon.
