An Escondido fire near Kit Carson Park left a woman severely burned Tuesday and caused an estimated $306,000 worth of damage to her home, authorities reported.

The blaze in the 3000 block of Violet Glen in Escondido erupted for unknown reasons about 8:15 a.m., according to fire department officials.

Neighbors told arriving emergency personnel that someone might be inside the burning two-story home, Battalion Chief John Tenger said.

Crews searched the home, found the resident and pulled her outside. Medics performed CPR at the scene before taking her to a hospital. The woman, who’s believed to be in her late 60s, was admitted in critical condition, Tenger said.

Firefighters had the blaze contained in about 20 minutes.

Investigators put the monetary losses at about $256,000 to the structure and $50,000 to contents.

The cause of the blaze was under investigation, Tenger said.
