Update 3:30 p.m. June 16, 2014

A married couple in their 70s died of gunshot wounds at their Linda Vista home Monday in an apparent murder-suicide carried out by the husband.

The man called San Diego police shortly after 10 a.m. to report that he was about to kill his wife and then commit suicide at their house in the 2300 block of West Jewett Street, San Diego Police Lt. Mike Hastings said.

Officers went into the unlocked residence and found the bodies.

“Evidence at the scene included … a handgun near the decedents and (suggested) this was an apparent murder-suicide,” Hastings said.

The couple’s names were withheld pending family notification.
