A 28-year-old man was killed early Sunday during a fight with another man in the Gaslamp district in downtown San Diego.

Officers were flagged down about 1 a.m. by a concerned citizen who found the victim on the sidewalk in the 500 block of F Street, said San Diego Police Lt. Manuel Del Toro.

Paramedics rushed the victim to an area hospital, where he later died. A preliminary investigation revealed the victim was in a verbal and physical confrontation after leaving a local business in the Gaslamp area, Del Toro said.

The man believed to have been involved in the fight left the area in a hurry.

The suspect was described as a black male between ages 28 and 30, weighing about 170 pounds with long dreadlocks. He was last seen wearing a green shirt, sagging pants with with underwear exposed, the police lieutenant said.

San Diego police homicide detectives asked anyone with any information regarding the fight to call them at (619) 531-2293.
