A hit-and-run driver ditched his vehicle early Thursday and escaped after a foot chase following a crash on Interstate 805 that left another person injured.

The driver of a Ford Mustang crashed into an Infinity sedan that was stopped on the side of the southbound lanes of Interstate 805 north of Interstate 15 about 12:15 a.m. then fled, according to the California Highway Patrol.

An officer chased the suspect, who ran east across the interstate’s northbound lanes, then into a nearby wooded area, but he got away, CHP officials said. His wrecked car was left behind.

One person was taken to a hospital after the crash, a San Diego Fire-Rescue Department dispatcher said.

CHP officials said the fleeing driver may have also been injured.

The suspect was described by the CHP as a thin, Hispanic, with short black hair, wearing a white shirt, jeans and black tennis shoes. He may have a bump on his head and may have been bleeding from his head, according to the CHP.

Debris from the crash was strewn over a portion of the freeway and authorities closed the right lanes, according to the CHP.
