San Diego Sheriff Bill Gore and Supervisor Diane Jacob cut the ribbon Friday to open a new substation in Pine Valley to serve surrounding areas of rural East County.

The new substation will support 38 deputies plus staff and volunteers and serve some 8,000 people who live in Pine Valley, Guatay, Descanso, Mount Laguna, Boulevard and Jacumba.

The one-story, $3.75 million facility took nearly a year to build.

The department has a total of 19 patrol stations across San Diego County.
