Updated 2:45 p.m. Saturday, with ID’s of the dead.
The two people who were killed in a head-on crash involving a wrong-way driver on state Route 67 in Lakeside were identified Saturday.
Trista Lynn Stier, 29, of Jamul was driving a silver Ford F150 pickup truck and around 3:15 p.m. Friday headed south onto the northbound off-ramp near Winter Gardens Boulevard. She then drove into oncoming traffic at about 60 miles per hour, according to the California Highway Patrol and the county Medical Examiner’s Office.
Her pickup truck collided head-on with a northbound 2014 Chevrolet 3500 utility vehicle driven by Douglas M. Menegos, 49, of Alpine, the offices said.
Stier was taken to Sharp Memorial Hospital, where she died from her injuries at about 5 p.m., while Menegos was airlifted to Scripps Mercy Hospital, where he was pronounced dead just after 4 p.m., according to the CHP.
No toxicological studies were released
The force of the crash caused both vehicles to spin across northbound lanes and one of them collided with a 2002 Ford F450 driven by a 53-year-old man from El Cajon. The man driving the F450 was uninjured.
