A man who allegedly tried to run down a police officer with a stolen big rig Tuesday led authorities on a  chase from San Bernardino County to San Diego, where he finally was arrested at a gas station near Marine Corps Air Station Miramar.

The pursuit began in Ontario in the early afternoon, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The suspect led officers through Riverside County and into San Diego County on Interstate 15, where he passed through Fallbrook, Bonsall and Escondido, then the city, before exiting the freeway on Miramar Road at about 2:40 p.m., the CHP reported.

He pulled into a Shell station off Kearny Villa Road, got out of the stolen truck and tried to escape on foot. Officers took him into custody a short time later with help from a service dog.

The suspect, whose name was not immediately available, was treated at the scene for bite wounds.
