Investigators sought Monday to determine how a man found unconscious and badly hurt in an East Village alley suffered his injuries.
Someone flagged down patrol officers about 6 a.m. to report finding the 58-year-old victim off the 1400 block of J Street, according to San Diego police.
He had suffered severe blunt-force trauma to his upper body and appeared to have been bleeding from the head, Lt. Mike Hastings said. Medics took the victim to a hospital, where he was admitted in critical condition.
“There were very few details of how the (man) became injured, and homicide detectives were called to conduct an inquiry into the matter,” the lieutenant said.
The victim’s name was withheld pending family notification.
