A 29-year-old man was in custody Friday on suspicion of robbing a bank in San Marcos.
Josiah Jeremiah Mays was arrested and booked into jail in connection with the robbery at the Chase Bank branch at 1705 San Elijo Road around 3 p.m. Thursday, according to San Diego County sheriff’s Sgt. Tom Vrabel.
A masked Mays allegedly robbed several tellers, then fled on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash in his pockets.
A sheriff’s dog unit and helicopter crew were sent to help look for the bandit, Vrabel said, adding that they quickly found discarded clothing on a nearby rural foot trail, which led them to find Mays hiding beneath some brush.
Though no weapon was seen during the robbery, Mays was armed with a large knife when he was found in the brush, Vrabel said. Deputies also found the tan mask allegedly worn in the robbery.
