Update 5:35 p.m. May 1, 2014.

The latest fire crews battled during the spate of hot, dry, windy weather erupted Thursday, threatening homes and forcing evacuations in East County, but crews extinguished it in about an hour.

It happened near the Jamacha Road off-ramp, on the west side off state Route 125 in Spring Valley, reports CalFire.

It was called in at 3 p.m. and no injuries resulted, authorities said. The fire burned two acres of vegetation, according to a dispatcher.

There are no reports of structural damage, but deputies cleared people out of several homes along nearby Elkelton Boulevard as engine crews fought the flames with help from a water-dropping helicopter, said Kendal Bortisser, a CalFire captain.

The flames damaged no homes but did scorch a shed, Bortisser said. The cause was under investigation.

Crews also confronted a blaze in Santee Wednesday.
