Deputies have arrested two men suspected of burglarizing a Ramona Episcopal church a week ago, and making off with cash, safes and sacramental wine.

The men, Christopher Szumski, 34, and Brandon Tye, 19, are believed to have entered St. Mary’s Episcopal Church in Ramona on April 14.

Four days later, Santee deputies found the safes, which had been discarded in a Lakeside dumpster.

After continued investigation, including acting on tips from the public and the Crime Stoppers hotline, detectives located Szumski and Tye Tuesday, searched their vehicle and found other stolen property.

Under questioning, authorities said, Szumski and Tye admitted to the church heist and another burglary, of a home in San Marcos. They each are charged with two counts of burglary and possession of stolen property.
