San Marcos will be the latest target for drunken drivers Friday night and Saturday morning when a task force conducts a sobriety and driver’s license checkpoint in the North County city.
Sheriff’s Sgt. David Cheever says: “The primary intent of the checkpoint is to educate the public
of the dangers associated with drinking and driving; additionally, the checkpoint [serves] as a deterrent to potentially impaired drivers.”
The checkpoint — at an unspecified location — will take place from 7 p.m. Friday to 3 a.m. Saturday, Cheever said in a news release.
DUI-trained deputies will be evaluating drivers’ abilities to safely operate motor vehicles, he said.
