A 22-year-old man was behind bars Thursday on suspicion of killing his girlfriend in her Bay Terraces-area apartment.

Martin Anthony Huey of San Diego was at the residence in the 6600 block of Doriana Street when San Diego police and an ambulance crew responded to an emergency medical call about 3:45 p.m. Monday, SDPD Lt. Mike Hastings said.

Officers found Angelica Gregory, also 22, unresponsive and not breathing in the rental unit. Medics tried in vain to revive her before pronouncing her dead at the scene.

The woman’s body bore only minor bruises, and it was not immediately clear what had killed her, Hastings said.

An autopsy determined that the fatality was a homicide, according to police.

The cause of death has not been released.

Homicide detectives arrested Huey in Riverside County on Wednesday, the lieutenant said. The suspect was booked into San Diego Central Jail and was being held on $150,000 bail pending arraignment, scheduled for Friday afternoon.

The couple had been dating for about four years, according to Hastings.
