A boxing match in the Colina del Sol neighborhood escalated from fists to feet and ended in a shooting that left a man wounded, a police officer said Sunday.

San Diego Police

Two men were boxing in front of a crowd about 5:20 p.m. Saturday in an alley off the 4300 block of 51st Street near El Cajon Boulevard when one began to kick the other, San Diego police Officer David Stafford said.

The man who was being kicked grew angry and told an associate in the crowd to take out his gun, Stafford said. The accomplice gunman shot the victim in his torso, arm and leg, Stafford said.

The wounded man was able to escape and later showed up at a hospital with a friend, Stafford said. He was eventually taken to a trauma center to be treated for the non-life-threatening injuries.

The gunman and the boxer who ordered the volley of gunfire were later arrested during a traffic stop, Stafford said. Neither man’s name was immediately released.
