A woman was found dead Saturday in the parking lot of a business in Carlsbad, and a 49-year-old man was jailed Sunday in connection with her death.

Someone called police shortly before 8 p.m. Saturday to check on a woman who had been working at a business in the 5700 block of Van Allen Way near Faraday Avenue, according to the Carlsbad Police Department.

Arriving officers found the woman’s body in the parking lot of a business park and determined she had been the victim of a homicide, police officials said.

A family member identified the woman to NBC7 as Ariflor Gonzalez, 37.

Pedro Rosalino Zurita was arrested after authorities followed investigative leads and was later booked into the Vista Detention Facility for suspicion of first degree murder, according to police and jail records.

The victim’s brother, Ismael Gonzalez, told the television station Gonzalez and Zurita had been married for more than two decades, but had separated about three months ago.
