Friends and family Friday mourned an 18-year-old man who died of an apparent medical emergency shortly after collapsing on a soccer field in the Jamacha-Lomita area of southeast San Diego.

Authorities identified him as Bryan Camacho of Chula Vista.

Police and paramedics were called to Keiller Park in the 700 block of Woodrow Avenue around 7:30 p.m. Thursday, according to San Diego police.

Once there, they learned that the man wasn’t feeling well during a soccer game and had sat down on the sidelines.

“His companions checked on him and about 10 minutes later, found that he was unconscious and not breathing,” San Diego police Lt. Paul Rorrison told KFMB Channel 8.

Paramedics took the man to Sharp Grossmont Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, according to the lieutenant.

Foul play was not suspected. The San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office will investigate the cause of death.

The man’s name was not immediately released.
