A Mexican considered a “top threat” in East San Diego County has been arrested by Mexican officials thanks to work by El Cajon-based Border Patrol agents, authorities said Tuesday.
The agents spotted several smugglers south of the border heading north and about 8 a.m. Friday, they contacted the San Diego Sector’s Foreign Operations Branch about a group of seven men in Mexico walking toward the border, said the Border Patrol.
FOB agents contacted Mexican officials, who responded by sending military personnel to the site. El Cajon agents had been monitoring the group and updated Mexican officials. Mexico moved in, arrested seven men, and confiscated four bundles of marijuana, said the patrol.
Mexico later contacted U.S. officials and indicated that Juan Francisco Jimenz-Osuna was a member of the arrested group.
Jimenz-Osuna previously was identified as a top threat in the El Cajon area of responsibility. He was identified as a smuggler in 2008 and has been arrested nine times in the United States. He also is wanted in Mexico and will be prosecuted there for drug trafficking and possession of narcotics.
