A motorist was killed Friday afternoon when he crashed a pickup truck off a street in the Tijuana River Valley, just north of the U.S.- Mexican border.

Authorities later identified the victim as Edward V. Meza, 31, of Chula Vista.

Meza was heading west at high speed in the 2600 block of Monument Road when his 1998 Toyota Tacoma hit an asphalt curb and a rock, and overturned, according to San Diego police.

A passerby called for help, but Meza died of head injuries at the wreck, which was reported shortly before 3:30 p.m., authorities said.
