El Cajon officers nabbed a would-be burglar who targeted a home across the street from police headquarters, authorities said before his Tuesday arraignment.
Just before 12:30 p.m. Friday, a resident of the 300 block of Kentucky Avenue made a 911 call to report arriving home to find a stranger inside the residence, according to patrol Lt. Rob Ransweiler.
”The victim was not seen by the intruder, so he was able to get police on their way before the (burglar) left the house,” Ransweiler said.
Officers arrived quickly and captured the alleged burglar following a brief foot chase.
“The bag that he was carrying had been discarded during the chase but was recovered by the officers,” the lieutenant said. “It contained all of the property that had been taken from the victim’s residence.”
The suspect, identified as Martell Lamont West, 19, was booked into San Diego Central Jail on suspicion of burglary and possessing a controlled substance.
He was being held on $50,000 bail pending arraignment in advance of his court date.
