Kimberly Renee Hayes, 35, was discovered by an employee of the Sweetwater Authority about 4:55 a.m. March 9 just off Sequan Truck Trail, sheriff’s homicide Lt. Glenn Giannantonio said. When deputies arrived, the body was still smoldering.

The San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office has ruled the death a homicide, and an investigation is under way. Giannantonio declined to disclose if the postmortem exam pinpointed the cause of death, or if the ruling resulted solely from the circumstances of the fatality.

No other details about the victim have been released, nor has a possible motive or suspect been disclosed by detectives.

On a social-networking website, though, Hayes identified herself as an emergency medical technician and former emergency-room worker. She posted comments last month about having to report to county jail in late February, though she did not mention the reason for it.

Anyone with information about this incident is urged to contact authorities at 858-974-2321 during business hours, 858-565-5200 after hours, or Crime Stoppers at 888-58-8477. Tipsters can remain anonymous. There is a reward of up to $1,000 being offered.
