A fire of unknown origin gutted an unoccupied rental car Tuesday in the main parking lot of the San Diego Zoo and caused lesser damage to three other nearby parked vehicles.

The non-injury blaze in the 2900 block of Zoo Drive erupted about 10 a.m., according to the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department.

A single engine crew had the flames under control within 20 minutes, SDFRD spokesman Lee Swanson said.

The cause was under investigation.
