A 44-year-old bicyclist was struck and killed by a vehicle driven by a possibly drunken driver Monday in Chula Vista, authorities said.

The collision occurred at East J Street and Dennis Avenue at 4:12 p.m. according to the Chula Vista Police Department.

A silver Nissan Maxima was going west on East J Street and crossed into oncoming traffic, striking the bicyclist, who was going eastbound, authorities said.

The Maxima continued onto the sidewalk, hitting a San Diego Gas & Electric pole and a tree.

The bicyclist was taken to UCSD Medical Center where he died of his injuries. He was identified by NBC7 as David Voigt of Chula Vista.

The driver was also taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The Maxima was stolen in National City earlier in the day and it appeared there was property in the car from vehicular burglaries.

, 29, the driver, admitted he had been drinking before the collision and was arrested on what NBC7 said were multiple charges.
