A pedestrian has died after being struck by a vehicle while crossing a San Diego (5) Freeway overpass in Oceanside, authorities said Thursday.
The victim was 53-year-old Oceanside resident Charles Soltysiak, Oceanside Police Department Traffic Investigator Eric Anderson said.
He was struck by a westbound Ford Explorer, driven by Christian Thibodeau, 23, also of Oceanside, Anderson said. The victim was transported to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Anderson said Thibodeau did not have a cell phone with him and drove to his residence, a mile from the scene of the accident, to inform police of the accident, before returning to the scene with his father.
