A 17-year-old girl was in custody Thursday, accused of driving off after she struck and fatally injured a skateboarder in Carlsbad, police said.
The fatal hit-and-run in the area of Palomar Airport Road and Carlsbad Boulevard was reported at 10:51 p.m. Wednesday, according to Carlsbad police Lt. Pete Pascual.
“The victim was located in the roadway along southbound Carlsbad Boulevard, just north of Island Way, where he eventually succumbed to his injuries after life-saving measures were attempted,” the lieutenant said in a statement.
Witnesses described seeing a silver Chrysler sedan speed off southbound after the accident. The vehicle described by witnesses was later found at 6550 Ponto Drive, Pascual said, noting the teen driver was also arrested at the location.
The identify of the skateboarder was withheld until his family could be notified of his death.
