The Mission Bay High girls volleyball team will hold their latest Dig For Pink fundraiser at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 7, in the school gym.

The Dig For Pink fundraiser asks everyone (parents, grandparents, friends who attend, and the public at large) to pledge a dollar amount for each successful “dig” made during the game against Lincoln High. The goal is to raise $3,000 for breast cancer research, treatment and ongoing patient needs.

There are several ways to donate. The first, and most fun, is to attend the game, watch from the stands, and cheer on the Buccaneers. Or access the donation page online. Checks also may be sent to: Dig For Pink Fundraiser, girls volleyball, Mission Bay High School, 2475
Grand Ave., San Diego, CA 92109.

Volleyball coach Barbara Birnbaum, said, “This is our sixth year supporting one of the many critical needs in everyone’s fight against cancer. I am a two-time breast cancer survivor. There are so many players in our program who have been directly affected by someone with breast cancer.

“The Dig Pink Foundation works specifically with volleyball teams to raise money for
metastatic breast cancer research, treatment and ongoing care. Please come out and
support our team and their fundraising efforts on Oct. 7.”

What is a dig in volleyball? Extended volleys include several digs. Successful digs are what keep a volley going and the carefully executed defensive move prevents the opposing team
from scoring and redirects the ball to the setter and then the hitter to score a point.
Thus, there is a need to make successful digs many times during a match.
