Move over, Sin City — San Diego is now home to the “World’s Best Mai Tai.“
Eliza Woodman, lead bartender at Communion restaurant in Mission Hills, claimed the top prize at the prestigious World’s Best Mai Tai Competition in Las Vegas, earning the $15,000 grand prize, sponsored by Myers’s Rum.
Competing against hundreds of entries from across the country, Woodman’s recipe impressed judges through multiple qualifying rounds before she advanced to the showdown against 23 of the nation’s leading bartenders.
Before a panel of acclaimed cocktail experts, her inventive yet perfectly balanced twist on the Mai Tai earned her the crown.
“We are thrilled to see Eliza recognized on such a global stage,” said Communion owner Jacquee Renna. “Her creativity and skill embody the spirit of San Diego’s vibrant bar community, and we’re proud to share her achievement with our guests.”
The best part? You don’t have to book a flight to Vegas to taste it. Woodman’s award-winning Mai Tai is now available at Communion, 901 W. Washington St., giving San Diegans the chance to sip on a world-class cocktail right in their own backyards.
