SAN DIEGO – NFL football has kicked off with fans wearing jerseys to bars that support their favorite teams. It’s an honorable tradition and a ritual.

Where better to celebrate the new NFL season than in the Peninsula? In the Ocean Beach, Point Loma and Midway areas, you can find football-friendly sports bars like OB Brewery and Dirty Birds in Ocean Beach, and Goodbar near Point Loma.

OB Brewery at 5041 Newport Ave. is known to support the Los Angeles Rams and potentially other teams, while Dirty Birds in OB at 1929 Cable St. is listed as partial to Kansas City Chiefs and Las Vegas Raiders fans. Dirty Bird’s Liberty Station counterpart at 2970 Truxton Road, shows a wide variety of NFL games.

Goodbar at 1872 Rosecrans St., is a popular spot for game days, and is listed as favoring the Chicago Bears in the NFL, though specific team allegiances may vary or be shared. The Tilted Stick Bar & Grill at 4970 Voltaire St. is another good OB game-viewing option, though it’s uncertain if it has a specific pro team bar favorite.

In the Midway District, there aren’t many bars specifically dedicated to pro football teams. But bars like Oggi’s at 2562 Laning Road in Liberty Station and Jimmy’s Famous American Tavern at 4990 N. Harbor Drive are listed as general football viewing spots. Paradise Lounge & Grill at 2731 Midway Dr. is listed as a popular general-viewing football destination.

Harbor Town Pub at 1125 Rosecrans St. is renowned for being a good place to watch sports. Though it isn’t officially listed, Harbor Town is known to be a local hangout for fans of the San Diego Padres and the Los Angeles Chargers. The pub has a historic Padres mural painted on the back of the building.

In OB, Wonderland Ocean Pub at 5083 Santa Monica Ave., is listed as being a fan favorite for the New England Patriots and the Pittsburgh Steelers. Northside Tavern at 2228 Bacon St. is another popular game-day sports hangout with multiple TVs including outdoor options, though it is not currently listed as a favorite for any pro teams.

Raglan Public House at 1851 Bacon St. is listed as a Miami Dolphins haunt. Slaters 50/50 at 2750 Dewey Road in Liberty Station is also listed as a popular weekend sports site, though without any known sports team leanings or affiliations.

One of the best dive bars in San Diego, the Catalina Lounge at 4202 Voltaire St., is a known Green Bay Packers bar. The lounge has plenty of TVs and drinks, but if you want food, bring it in.

Bear in mind that sports bar affiliations can change, so calling ahead to confirm they will be showing your preferred game and supporting your team is recommended.
