The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in San Diego County fell Saturday to its lowest amount since Dec. 31, 2022, dropping three-tenths of a cent to $4.523.

The average price has decreased six of the past seven days, dropping 3.9 cents, including six-tenths of a cent Friday, according to figures from the AAA and Oil Price Information Service. The average price decreased a half-cent Sunday, rose two-tenths of cent Monday and resumed dropping Tuesday.

The average price is 15.7 cents less than one month ago and 65.4 cents lower than one year ago. It has dropped $1.912 since rising to a record $6.435 on Oct. 5, 2022.

The national average price dropped six-tenths of a cent to $3.078 after being unchanged the previous two days. It is 1.2 cents less than one week ago, 12.6 cents lower than one month ago and 26.4 cents below what it was one year ago.

The national average price has dropped $1.938 since rising to a record $5.016 on June 14, 2022.

The possible formation of a new hurricane in the Gulf of Mexico could delay or temporarily reverse the decline in pump prices, according to Andrew Gross, an AAA national public relations manager.

“Hurricane Rafael fizzled out, but now we are facing the possible formation of Hurricane Sara,” Gross said. “Some of the early tracking models have her heading toward Florida by the middle of next week, so stay tuned.”
