To address issues critical to the business community on both sides of the U.S.-Mexico border, over 110 business representatives and leaders from San Diego and Baja California will travel to Mexico City.
The San Diego Regional Chamber of Commerce‘s 18th annual Binational Delegation to Mexico City will begin Sunday with a priority list to advance the border region. The list includes border efficiency, water management and economic partnerships.
The group will continue to meet through Wednesday with Mexican leaders and government officials to help strengthen economic ties and explore collaboration opportunities, according to the chamber.
There also will be time to network and form political and business relationships.
“Creating this unique opportunity for dialogue with the leadership in Mexico City, especially the new presidential administration, is critical to advancing our binational region,” Jerry Sanders, the chamber’s president and CEO, said in a news release.
Sanders referred to new Mexican President Claudia Scheinbaum.
“With this large, diverse group of leaders from across [California]-Baja, we’re demonstrating our continued commitment to collaboration,” he said. “It really helps move the needle on issues when you bring everyone together in one room, to show who is impacted and why it maters to their business and community.”
There will be 114 members, which is the largest delegation the chamber has sent to Mexico City. Leaders from San Diego and Baja California include:
- San Diego Major Todd Gloria
- Tijuana Major Ismael Burgueño
- San Diego Board of Supervisors Chairwoman Nora Vargas
- Baja California Senator Gustavo Sanchez
- Secretary of the California State Transportation Agency, Toks Omishakin
- Imperial Beach Mayor Paloma Aguirre
- Chula Vista Mayor John McCann
- San Diego City Council members Marni Von Wilpert and Vivian Moreno
- Chula Vista City Council member Carolina Chavez
- San Diego Ambassador Alicia Kerber-Palma, Consul General of Mexico
Members of the delegation will take part in a live press conference at 9 a.m. Monday to discuss their progress. Featured speakers include Sanders, Gloria, Vargas, Aguirre, Burgueño, Omishakin, Sanchez and Kerber-Palma.
The press conference will be held at the St. Regis Mexico City Hotel and live-streamed here.
