A new bakery has come to The Forum Carlsbad, the shopping center operated by Northwood Retail.

SusieCakes, founded by Susan Sarich in 2006 in Los Angeles, was inspired by her memories of baking alongside her grandmothers, Mildred and Madeline.

The bakery offers classic American desserts, from layer cakes to cupcakes, cookies and pies, all made on-site from scratch.

“SusieCakes’ dedication to quality and their heartfelt approach to baking make them a perfect fit for our community,” said Trish Pruitt, vice president of marketing for Northwood Retail. “We know our shoppers will love the delicious desserts and the warm, inviting atmosphere that SusieCakes brings.”

Sarich’s treasured 3”x 5” recipe cards, passed down from her grandmothers, serve as the cornerstone for SusieCakes’ offerings. Her bakery quickly became a neighborhood favorite in the Brentwood area, attracting a large celebrity following.

“This location is a perfect fit for our bakery, and I’m excited to bring our delicious custom cakes, cupcakes and other treats to this beautiful space. We love the Carlsbad community and are eager to provide our loyal guests with the convenience of picking up their favorite treats while enjoying all that the Forum Carlsbad has to offer,” Sarich said.

SusieCakes has expanded steadily. The Forum Carlsbad will be its second in the community, and it also has a space in Del Mar, along with locations in Los Angeles, Orange and Ventura counties. The company also has branched out to Texas and Tennessee, with plans for further national expansion.

SusieCakes, located at 1935 Calle Barcelona, Suite 172, is open Monday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
