San Diego’s clean energy sector will soon be receiving more funding.

San Diego Community Power, the San Diego Foundation, and Calpine Energy Solutions are announcing that they will grant more than $1.2 million toward clean energy and green workforce development projects in San Diego County.

The announcement is planned for 10 a.m. Monday at National City’s Olivewood Gardens and Learning Center, which will soon run on solar power.

Sixteen checks will be presented to nonprofit organizations. The $1.2 million grant almost triples the amount of funding awarded last year to nonprofits for clean energy programs.

San Diego Community Power is an energy program that gives customers the option to run their businesses and homes on higher levels of renewable power at competitive rates.
