The San Diego Brewers Guild hosts its 2023 Craft Beer Con on Tuesday at Mira Costa College’s San Elijo campus in Cardiff.
The annual half-day conference – it sold out last year – celebrates San Diego as the “Capital of Craft,” while offering brewers a forum to discuss trends in the local craft beer industry.
The event, which begins at 11 a.m., is open to the general public. It includes three education tracks – production, sales and marketing and business – a trade show that runs throughout the day and beer tastings starting at 4 p.m. Food trucks will be on hand during lunch hour.
Speakers from some of the most prominent San Diego breweries will be on hand for panels, including AleSmith Brewing Company, Belching Beaver Brewery, Pizza Port, Second Chance Beer Company and Stone Brewing.
Panels include a focus on hopping techniques for modern beer, marketing to non-beer drinkers and the world of a beer buyer.
“While some of the topics are nuanced for experienced brewers and brewery owners, this is a tremendous opportunity for anyone interested in our industry to learn more and get involved,” said a guild board member, Erik Fowler. “Craft Beer Con has become our best networking event for both Guild members and newcomers, and we can’t wait to celebrate all that is good about the local craft beer scene.”
Tickets can be purchased online, at $60 for the general public and $50 for Brewers Guild members.
Craft Beer Con is co-produced by MiraCosta College’s BrewTech Program, a 210-hour course that trains students to become production brewers. It is the only brewing program recognized by Master Brewers Association of the Americas in California.
