Brookfield Properties – one of the firms competing to spearhead the Sports Arena redevelopment project – has completed a nearly $2 million upgrade of the company’s regional headquarters in the East Village.

Known as Eagles Hall, the historic, 18,000 square-foot office building has been modernized to accommodate more than 100 employees and support further expansion.

“As we continue to build our pipeline of projects and expand our local team, our reimagined workplace will help position us for long-term success and an even deeper connection to our community,” said Ted Lohman, a vice president at Brookfield.

The office was reworked to meet modern workplace needs, with the demolition of large offices and storage areas to create an open-work environment add new conference and lounge areas. The space also has been outfitted with the latest audio-visual and information technology.

Located at 733 Eighth Ave., Eagles Hall was constructed in 1917 with a Greek neoclassical revival design.

After serving a variety of uses, then going through several decades of vacancy, the property was renovated in 1997 when it became the home of the development firm OliverMcMillan.

In February 2018, Brookfield acquired the firm in an effort to bolster its presence in the San Diego region. Two years ago, Brookfield Properties acquired San Diego-based Newland, a masterplan homebuilder.

“Over the past few years, Brookfield Properties has strategically grown in San Diego and we will continue leveraging our global reach and expertise locally,” Lohman said. “We have the unique ability and resources to make complex real estate projects come to life and are looking forward to further driving transformational change right in our backyard.”

Since 1968, the team has launched dozens of projects across San Diego County that have earned nearly 50 design awards from national and international institutions.

Brookfield Properties is pursuing the city of San Diego’s Sports Arena redevelopment opportunity as part of the Discover Midway team. Four other groups are in the running.

The Discover Midway proposal includes 3,277 housing units, more than 500,000 square feet of retail and commercial space, 11 acres of parks, and a locally focused Mercado.

Other Discover Midway partners include ASM Global, Affirmed Housing and National CORE.
