Cisterra Development announced Tuesday that downtown’s first Target store will be located in the 22-story Radian apartment tower planned for the East Village.

The tower will be located along G Street between 9th and 10th avenues and incorporate the exterior of the historic Farkas Store Fixtures building. The 36,000-square-foot Target will be located on the ground floor and lower level.

Cisterra said the tower would feature 241 apartments with a fitness center, dog park, outdoor theater, pool and other amenities.

“Radian will add new housing and provide a long-awaited Target store in a centrally and highly accessible area of downtown San Diego,” said Steven Black, chairman of Cisterra. “We look forward to expeditiously delivering Radian with a planned groundbreaking this summer and estimated completion of construction in 2023.”

Cisterra’s plan for the Farkas façade was unanimously approved by both the Save Our Heritage Organization and the city of San Diego’s Historical Resources Board last year.

“Radian will be an exceptionally crafted, modern high-rise that also honors and preserves one of the neighborhood’s historic buildings,” said Diane Peabody Straw, executive director of the East Village Association.

Cisterra Development’s work downtown includes DiamondView Tower, Sempra Energy’s Downtown Headquarters and 7th & Market.

The new Radian tower will be designed by San Diego-based Carrier Johnson + CULTURE with Swinerton as the general contractor.
