Fashion Valley, one of the San Diego area’s most frequented shopping malls, is getting a multi-million-dollar makeover beginning this month.
Indianapolis-based Simon Property Group, owner of the mall in Mission Valley, announced plans Wednesday for a series of improvements to the center’s public spaces, including new landscaping, outdoor lounges and water features. The project will also include new options for dining, valet parking and personal shopping.
“At Fashion Valley we pride ourselves on providing the ultimate shopping and dining experience for our guests,” said Vicki Hanor, senior executive vice president at Simon. “The proposed updates only seek to further enhance the overall guest experience and better reflect the San Diego lifestyle we all enjoy.”
Fashion Valley’s more than 200 stores will remain open during the renovation, which is expected to be completed in 2021.
The mall opened in 1969 and received its last major renovation in 1997.
Westfield UTC, a competing mall in University City, recently completed a new wing and a nearby luxury apartment tower.
