The Cohn Restaurant Group‘s nonprofit taco shop in Hillcrest has officially donated over $100,000 to charity since opening its doors in 2017.
Each month, the Tacos Libertad restaurant team selects a different charitable beneficiary to donate 100% of the profits. Among the previous recipients are Meals on Wheels, the Balboa Park Conservancy, Rady Children’s Hospital, and KPBS.
“We’re thrilled to have surpassed $100,000 in donations and excited to build upon the momentum,” said Lesley Cohn, who runs the restaurant group with her husband David.
“Both David and I grew up in philanthropic families and their generosity to those in need has always been an inspiration to us,” she said. “Both our children and grandchildren volunteer in the community as they have been taught that giving is more rewarding than receiving.”
In October, all of Tacos Libertad’s proceeds will be donated to The League of Extraordinary Engineers, a nonprofit that engages pre-K through 8th grade students with hands-on curriculum promoting science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.
Tacos Libertad at 1023 University Avenue offers a menu of classic and fusion tacos and both indoor and outdoor seating.
