San Diego ranked as the 9th most expensive city for apartment rentals at the end of September, with a typical one-bedroom unit going for $1,800 a month.
The ranking is based on 1 million active apartment listings across the United States on Zumper.com, a San Francisco-based online search engine for rentals.
The median price of one-bedroom unit in San Diego grew 2.9% in September to $1,800, while rent for a median two-bedroom unit fell 2% to $2,400.
San Francisco rents led the national at $3.550 for a one-bedroom unit, followed by New York City at $2,970, Boston at $2,510 and Oakland at $2.480.
For comparison, a one-bedroom apartment in Bakersfield in California’s Central Valley went for only $730.
