The German ALDI discount grocery chain is opening two more stores in San Diego this month as part of its U.S. expansion.

A new store at  6755 Mira Mesa Boulevard opened June 13 and another store at in Encinitas will open at 333 North El Camino Real in Encinitas on Thursday.

The two new stores bring to eight the number in the San Diego Area. They are part of a $3.4 billion investment by the family-owned company to expand to 2,500 stores nationwide by the end of 2022.

The Mira Mesa store was the company’s 1,900th in the United States.

“The 1,900th store is a significant milestone for ALDI and we’re pleased that the new San Diego store is being recognized,” said Tom Cindel, director of operations and logistics for ALDI’s Moreno Valley group.

“Growing our national footprint over the last several years has been extremely rewarding as we gain new ALDI fans across the country, including right here in Southern California, where we’ve opened 66 new stores since 2016, and plan to open 15 stores in 2019,” Cindel added.

The new stores feature expansive refrigeration space to accommodate extensive fresh food selections, including many organic and easy-to-prepare options. Hours at both new locations are 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily.

The ALDI group of companies operates over over 10,000 stores in 20 countries and includes the popular Trader Joe’s chain in the United States.
