Cross Border Xpress, the binational bridge between San Diego and Tijuana International Airport, plans a $10 million investment to support traffic growth.
Nearly 290,000 travelers used the bridge in December, a 31 percent increase from the previous year, and officials are anticipating 18 percent to 20 percent growth over 2019 to an annual total of 2.7 million travelers.
Improvements planned include better air circulation, upgrades to customs infrastructure, expanded parking, a reconfiguration of the departures lobby and restroom renovations.
Over the last four months, the Tijuana airport has added five new destinations: Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo, Tuxtla, Huatulco, Merida, and Loreto. The airport now serves more than 30 destinations in Mexico and China.
The 390-foot-long bridge opened in Otay Mesa in December 2015.
