San Diego-based Sharp Community Medical Group announced a partnership Wednesday with the telemedical company PlushCare.
PlushCare is an internet service available to smartphones, computers and through the company’s mobile app that allows patients to access a doctor 24/7. PlushCare’s doctors, billed as world-class physicians from the top-50 medical schools as ranked by U.S. News and World Report, can diagnose non- emergency medical issues like sinus infections and allergies, recommend treatment for the diagnosed ailments and send prescriptions same-day to a patient’s local pharmacy.
Appointments are available every 15 minutes and also last 15 minutes. The briskness of PlushCare’s workflow means a patient could receive a diagnosis and pick up a prescription in 30 minutes, the company said.
The partnership will allow Sharp HMO members to access health care from anywhere in addition to Sharp’s 350 practice locations in San Diego County. PlushCare appointments are $30 for Sharp HMO members and $99 for non- HMO patients.
“We are pleased to offer our HMO members the added convenience of access to on-demand PlushCare visits at a significantly discounted fee,” Sharp President Dr. Kenneth Roth said. “It is one more way that Sharp Community Medical Group is providing patients the ability to access the care they need, when and where they need it.”
PlushCare co-founders Ryan McQuaid and Dr. James Wantuk founded the company in San Francisco in 2014. Wantuk, then a physician at Stanford, now works as one of PlushCare’s top medical advisors.
“We’re thrilled to partner with such a forward thinking organization,” McQuaid said. “We look forward to bringing the highest patient- rated online medical experience to Sharp Community Medical Group members.”
